Mayor Murray signed executive order strengthening equity in City contracting

Original Date Posted: April 10, 2014 2:34 pm

On April 8, 2014, Mayor Ed Murray signed an executive order strengthening the City’s ongoing commitment to social equity in City contracting opportunities. The order requires departments promptly pay invoices, support businesses by providing technical assistance, and increase accountability and coordination to ensure fair and equitable treatment among all businesses competing for public works, purchasing and consulting contracts.

Both, the City Purchasing and Contracting Services and the Mayor and his Senior Advisors, have a 2014 mission to ensure a warm, welcoming, and respectful business environment for our contracting firms. Part of this is to study any opportunities to improve and speed payments to our smallest subcontractors, as well as to our large firms. While this will require study and reengineering throughout 2014, we look forward to the possibility of making this improvement on behalf of the Mayor and the City as a whole.
